Sand casting is a tried and tested process, enhanced at a local company by the latest simulation and computer modelling technology. Their highly optimised sand casting methods allow them to produce high-strength, complex multi-core parts in a range of magnesium and aluminium alloys.
The company is a leading supplier for the aerospace and defence industries, and have been using AKO Pinch Valves to control the flow of sand within their foundry for 40+ years.
The Pinch Valves are used for the sand blower in the foundry, which is a tough environment. Although the valves are made up of an aluminium body with aluminium flanges, the sand does not come into contact with any parts of the aluminium. The flanges have abrasion resistant mild steel bushing rings on the inside, which are where the wetted parts that the media comes into contact with.
Excellent Total Cost Of Ownership
The Works Engineer on site told us at AKO UK that his satisfaction with the Pinch Valves is very good, and that the valves for sand conveying are repaired and replaced when needed.
The amount of time the sleeves are replaced depends on usage, but in this case, the sleeves are replaced approximately every 12-18 months. With the sleeve being the only wearable part of the Pinch Valve, the total cost of ownership is excellent in comparison to other valve types on the market that will frequently need replaceable gaskets, seals, glands, nuts, disc, levers and handles etc.
