The updated AKO UK valves on this system has improved the overall performance.
A UK company supplying over 24 million precast low carbon concrete blocks annually are using Pinch Valves from AKO UK for their granular accelerant – an ingredient that goes into manufacturing the blocks.
There are currently two AKO Pinch Valves from the VMP range on site, which will later increase to four.
An alternative manufacturers Pinch Valves have been installed on their concrete mixer, but this whole area is about to be fully re-built and re-configured. The Site Engineering Supervisor told us at AKO UK:
“I like the idea of the bag/sleeve being changeable so when we re-design the additive system I plan on replacing all of our pinch valve from AKO UK.”
Valves for Accelerant Application Details
The powdered granular accelerant passing through the valves at 2 bar has a sugar-like consistency. Installed vertically, the AKO UK Pinch Valves are normally open and are powered closed. A solenoid valve activates the pneumatic system to operate the Pinch Valves.
Performing between 250-350 cycles per day, the Pinch Valves close respectively to divert the powdered accelerant to the desired concrete mixer through a series of shot blast gauge hoses. 4 bar is used to close the valves.

Pinch Valves have been in use on this site for over 30 years. The company decided to use a Pinch Valve from AKO UK within this application when an existing valve needed the internal sleeve replacing, which had ruptured. They followed the original design of this particular piece of equipment.
Other valve types are used on this site depending on the application whether it be powder delivery, pneumatic or hydraulic.
